The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas

WALT: We have been Reading about The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas for this the class has been split into 2 groups German and Jewish if you are German you wear a German flag and you get to have Music , free time in the afternoons, sitting on chairs and getting to boss the Jewish around. If you are a Jewish (which i am) you wear a Star of David and  you have to sit on the floor ,pack up every afternoon can only play on the courts , have to do your work in books or ask permission for chrome books and Have to ask permission for sporting events. This is for us to know how the Jewish felt. We have been doing activities for each chapter here are mine.

Word Work: This week for Word Work I did Meanings, Origins and Sentences.

Word Work Week 3 Term 2

Initiative

Meaning- The Power or opportunity to act or take charge before others do.  

Origin- French  

Sentence- Use your initiative to do the right thing.  

Mirage

Meaning- an optical illusion caused by atmospheric conditions, especially the appearance of a sheet of water in a desert or on a hot road caused by the refraction of light from the sky by heated air.

Origin- Latin

Sentence-  A Mirage is coming.

Propulsion

Meaning- The Action of driving or pushing forwards.

Origin- Medieval Latin  

Sentence- The Plane cannot leave the hangar until its propulsion is fixed.

Reminiscence

Meaning- A story told about the past event remembered by the narrator.  

Origin- Late Latin

Sentence-  In other cases early costumes are preserved only as a historical reminiscence at festivities.

Renege  

Meaning- Go Back on a promise, undertaking or contract.

Origin- Medieval Latin

Sentence- Although my father made a promise to extend my curfew, he later decided to renege upon his word and ordered me home by eleven.

Literacy Reflection Term 1 Week 10

Writing:

The pod travelled everywhere together. Moving as one through the ice-cold, northern waters, they began to stalk their prey... hunting it down to eat they were good at catching their own prey. They move together as a group and stalk there prey together through the icy waters.

If you watched a dog sleep you will think that it dreams. A dog deep asleep will twitch, move and moan as if it was dreaming about running through a land made of bones big Juicy bones.

But the question is can animals actually dream?

Scientists would agree the same with any animal lover you might ask. Animals indeed appear to dream like any human. But how do Scientists know did the ask different species of animals?

No they did not Animals can’t talk to us about their dreams. But humans wish they could talk to us like they do in the movies or books.

But Scientists need to be more smart than that to know Do Animals dream?

Researchers from Cambridge University studies conducted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to conclude that animals can dream. Animals can have very complex dreams about memories or moments while they were awake.

Word Work 

Meaning

Scrupulously - In a very careful and thorough way.

Pantomime - a theatrical entertainment, mainly for children, which involves music, topical jokes, and slapstick comedy and is based on a fairy tale or nursery story, usually produced around Christmas - Christmas is a time where family gets together and Santa comes and delivers presents.

Refuge - The state of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger or difficulty.

Predecessor - A person who held a job or office before the current holder

Marvelous - Causing great wonder; extraordinary

Writing Camp Reflection

Intro

2 Weeks ago Mamaku 1 went on camp to Westport on the 6-8 of March. We stayed at the University of Canterbury where we had delicious meals cooked by the parents. We also went to many places like Charleston gold mine, Nile River, The Seal colony and Deniston and lots more.

Paragraph 1 - What

Westport camp 2017 was a fun camp where we got to go to lots of different places. We stayed at a nicely cleaned place and the parents cooked us delicious meals.

On Westport camp we went to The Seal Colony , Nile River , Deniston and The Aquatic centre and Museums. We also stayed at the University of Canterbury which was a nice place with enough room for everyone.

Christmas Activities: This week for Christmas activities I did Christmas around the world, where you had to have facts about what each place does for christmas.

Word work: This week for Word work I did blue vowels where you had to put all the vowels ( AEIOU ) in blue. 

Work on Writing: This week for Work on Writing since there was an earthquake we did our writing on the earthquake. 

Reading follow up : For our Reading follow up we had to make an Explanation burger of Why do we have Wisdom Teeth? and after that we had to make a word cloud and use the key words.

Word work: This week for word work we have been fixing up our word work spreadsheet so we can have all our activities and words all tidy. For my activity this week I had to do ABC Order which is ordering all your spelling words in a google drawing. I also learnt that a description can be a piece of paper that you pay for at a pharmacy to get medicine every month. 




Work on Writing / Myths and Legends:This week for Work on Writing we started a new topic called Myths and Legends. We had to do complete activities and these are the activities I have done. I learnt that a Myth can be about a Mythical creature. 

Reading: This week for Reading we just carried on with doing this if we hadn't completed it in W3 (Which I hadn't because i was away). I am learning to recognize what the author's purpose is for their writing.

This week for be an Explorer we had to choose out of famous Explorers i choose Jacques Cartier. We had to make a Slide with 3 questions and 3 Answers her is mine.

How to be a Explorer:
This week we did more of how to be an explorer Miss Panther taught other people how to use Google maps so she taught us on the first slide was Historical sites which was google maps. I choose The Eiffel tower and The Pyramids of Giza. To also help us we used Earth picker which is a app that you use so say you are in the world somewhere and you have to look for clues, which could be Street names, Road signs and which side are they driving on. 

Reading Reflection:
This week with Miss Leigh for our Reading follow up we did Why is there 7 days in a week on an Explanation burger drawing. We also did a Word cloud of our favourite book mine was charlie and the chocolate factory.

Lurvy discovered it early in the morning and brought Mr Zuckerman in to see it.It is believed that Mr Zuckermans unusual pig Wilbur's best Friend is a spider, and the spider has spun the web.

It has Been told world wide that Mr Zuckerman has an unusual pig there is a web in Mr Zuckerman's Old Red Barn that says SOME PIG and TERRIFIC.(Mr Zuckerman ”Yes it is told that my Pig Wilbur is very unusual some people think that a spider has made the web and Wilbur and the spider might have a connection.”The first morning when lurvy my farm assistant went to feed Wilbur he found Wilbur underneath a Web that says SOME PIG then next few day’s Wilbur is under the web but this time it says TERRIFIC.(Fern)”Yes Wilbur is a very Terrific pig he is a good friend with Charlotte.So Wilbur the Unusual pig is friends with a spider named Charlotte and a 8 year old local girl named Fern can talk to the animals.

In numeracy I have been learning to use tidy numbers to make the questions easier.I thought this made it really easy to work out the answers.
We read the article water worries and I made it into a google drawing for my follow up. I learnt how to keep waterways safe and how to not waste water.
