End of Year blog post

End of Year Reflection: Since it is the End of the Year we have to do a blog Reflection of what we are proud of. I am most proud of my Rippa Rugby, because we trained and trained and then when it was the game our team was really good and i enjoyed playing the rippa games every Friday even though we didn't get up to Wellington. Next year i will be playing Rippa as a Year 6 and new Year 5's will train with us because the Year 6's in 2016 will be Year 7's next year.

This week for Numeracy you could choose what you did out of some activities (They were all related around Christmas) I choose On the first day of christmas my true love sent to me ...

Eleven pipers piping
Ten lords a-leaping
Nine ladies dancing
Eight maids a-milking
Seven swans a-swimming
Six geese a-laying
Five gold rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree


Christmas Problem Solving

  • How many nests would is needed for all of the birds?
  • Could each species of bird have a partner?
  • How many pairs of shoes in the song?
  • How many musical instruments in the songs band?
  • If each of the people found a husband/wife in the song, how many weddings would there be?
  • How many drumsticks? (Could be a trick Q)
  • If each milk-maid’s bucket carried 6.5 litres of milk, how much milk was collected?
  • Each piper was on a rota, they had to play for 2 ¼ hours per shift. If the pipers played continuously throughout the 12 days, how long did each piper play?

Discuss your thoughts first with a buddy.
There could be more than one correct answer!
Show workings out either as jottings or images/diagrams.
Now create two more problems to solve.

  1. 23 nest would be needed for 23 birds
  2. No because 23 is an odd number
  3. There are 50 pairs of shoes
  4. 23 Instruments are in the band
  5. 36 men and Ladies getting married
  6. There is 24 drumsticks
  7. Their would be 3 or 2 sets of milk collected from the maid.
  8. Their would be 11 hours for the pipers because their is 11 pipers.
